The CCD is a chip that is basically the "film" of the digital camera, and it turns light into electric signals. CCD stands for Charged-Coupled Device and its a little more than a finger nail (in size)! After pressing the shutter release button on a digital camera, the light hits the CCD, which captures the degrees of brightness and organizes them in a grid and converts the information into binary codes. Then there's an additional filter process, which calculates the degrees of brightness that correspond to certain colors.
On the other hand, Megapixels means a million pixels where pixel (short for picture element), is the smallest picture element that makes a digital photograph. The higher the pixel count, the better the image's resolution.
Now the relationship between CCD and megapixels: Its the CCD that creates megapixels!!!
I hope this was beneficial to you. Please let me know if i could be of further assistance.
